BG Undead Rules
Overview
Humans Vs. Zombies is essentially a game of tag with two teams: Humans and Zombies. All players start off as humans, with the exception of a set number who have volunteered and are chosen to be Original Zombie(s). The Zombie(s) will start the 'infection' by tagging, or feeding on, members of the Human team. The Zombies must tag a Human at least once every three days, otherwise they 'starve out', and are then out of normal gameplay. (They may, however, return for missions and the final stand.) Humans may defend themselves from Zombies with approved equipment (listed below). The game will run from 12:00 AM to 11:59:59 PM each day (24 hours) from the starting date to the posted ending time for the final stand.
Objective
- Zombie Objective: Turn all humans.
- Human Objective: Survive the Zombie Apocalypse.
Required Equipment
- Current BG UNDEAD bandanna (Purchased before each game).
- This year's color is blue.
- Old bandanas can be worn, but you cannot play without the current bandana
- ID Cards: This card is available on the website once a player has registered online.
- ID Cards must be printed off of the website. Hand-written ID Cards, or those not printed from the website are not acceptable.
- Human Defensive Measures: Humans can defend themselves with the following
- Nerf Style Foam Blaster
- Blasters must remain bright and be non-metallic colors. Colors such as silver, black, bronze, etc, cannot be on blasters in significant amounts.
- Darts cannot be thrown by hand. They must be fired from a blaster or blowpipe.
- PVC Blowpipe for soft-foam darts
- Length Only up to 1 meter
- Balled Up Socks.
- Socks may be tapped or rubber-banded for stability
- Socks may have nothing inside of them for weight/hardness/impact. This includes rocks, acorns, paperweights, etc.
- Socks must be thrown. They do not stun a zombie while still in a player's hand. This means the sock and everything attached must leave the hand. If you attach a string to the sock to swing it around with, when you throw the sock, you cannot hold the swing to pull the sock back. The string has to leave your hand as well for the stun to count.
- Standard Size Marshmallows
- No more than two marshmallows may be thrown at a time.
- Marshmallows must be thrown. Like socks, they do not stun a zombie unless they leave the player's hand.
- No mini marshmallows.
- If marshmallows become hard, and may potentially hurt when thrown, please do not use them.
- Anything not included above, or anything modified to the point where it may cause pain upon impact, must be approved by an officer before being allowed in play.
- Nerf Style Foam Blaster
Safety Rules
- No hand-to-hand combat.
- No melee weapons.
- No playing in safe zones. Safe zones include:
- Inside of all buildings
- All staircases
- Grass between sidewalk and street of Game bounds (See Boundaries, below)
- Patios on top of staircases* (Such as the patio at the top of the Education Building steps)
- The bricks in front of the Union
- Loading docks
- Any class area (such as the Sculpture Garden and the Iron Pour area of the Art Building)
- Vehicles (cars, bikes, buses, skateboards, rollerblades, etc. Anything on wheels)
- Within the swing radius of any door.
- *The exception to the patio rule is the library deck. The stairs here, however, are still a safe zone.
- No playing out of bounds
- Boundaries are the outer edges of the sidewalks on Wooster, Thurstin, Merry and Mercer roads.
- Sidewalks of Wooster, Thurstin, Merry, and Mercer are in play, however the grassy areas between the sidewalks and the roads are safe zones.
- Please do not run into an Out of Bounds area with the intent of escaping zombies. It is dangerous.
- Do not tackle players.
- Do not block doors or stairs. There are people who do not play, who are trying to get to class, home, etc.
- Do not shine flashlights in a player's eyes.
- All flashlights must have a red filter on them.
- Absolutely no play in the graveyard. You can be arrested.
- Do not climb in trees on campus. You can get a fine.
- If you hear a whistle blown during play or missions, this is a time out. Stop immediately, and do as officers and moderators instruct.
- If you are confronted by police, comply immediately. Keep your hands visible, tell them you are playing the 'Zombie Game,' and under no circumstances reach for your blaster.
- No biting
- Do not leap from buildings and decks.
General Rules
- Avoid interaction with non-players.
- If at any point a non-player complains that you are being disruptive, apologize and relocate.
- If at any point you feel that non-players are being disrespectful, remain courteous, but report them either to an officer, or to campus staff.
- While on/in a vehicle, players are out of play. A player must remove their bandana while in a vehicle. Once the player is out of the vehicle, they may put their bandana back on.
- Zombies which are hit by a dart/sock/marshmallow from a player who is in a vehicle are not stunned.
- Use common sense; if it looks like someone could get hurt, it's probably not a good idea.
- Be considerate when indoors. Do not disrupt classes or res life.
Human Rules
- You must keep your ID Card on you at all times during the game.
- Humans must wear their bandana around their arm or leg, and it must be clearly visible at all times in-game. Your bandana may not be worn around the wrist, ankle or hand.
- The BG UNDEAD logo must be visible. The more, the better.
- Bandana must be visible from all angles. Covering it up with the intent to hide your bandana is not acceptable.
- Humans may stun Zombies for 10 minutes by utilizing foam darts, socks, or marshmallows.
- Humans cannot stun Zombies from inside a safe zone. If you're trapped, find another exit or call for backup.
- Once tagged, the player must give up their ID card to the tagging Zombie and switch their bandana to the 'stunned' position (around the neck). After 10 minutes, the player switches their bandana to their head, and thus becomes an infectious Zombie and may begin tagging Humans.
Zombie Rules
- To tag a human, Zombie must place one hand firmly on each arm (the shoulder, and any area between the shoulder and above the elbow) of the Human at the same time.
- Zombies must have both feet out of a safe zone (see above) to tag a human.
- Must 'feed' by tagging a human at least once every 3 days, or Zombie will 'starve out' of normal gameplay.
- This means that, except for missions and final stand, a zombie will be unable to participate.
- When Zombies make a tag, they get 2 additional 'feedings' to distribute to other zombies.
- Must wear bandana easily visible around their head, with the logo facing out. Acceptable Zombie ways to wear the bandana are:
- 'Rambo' style headband
- Doo-rag style headwrap
- Bandanas must be visible from 360 degrees. Hoodies, hair, and other things which block full visibility of a bandana are not acceptable.
- When in play, if bandana is voluntarily removed or moved to 'stunned' position, you must enter a building before bandana may be moved back to the head.
- This means that, if you remove your bandana, but are not stunned, you cannot place it back on your head while outside.
- Collect the Human's ID Card and report the tag on the website. Tags must be reported ASAP, so that the new Zombie can hunt.
- Report incorrect/fraudulent ID Cards to an officer.
- If a Zombie is hit with a foam dart, sock, or marshmallow, Zombies are 'stunned' for 10 minutes.
- While stunned, the bandana must be switched to around the neck to show stunned status. The zombie must leave the immediate area.
- Stunned zombies may not touch in-play players, or interact with the game. This includes shielding other players, calling other players, chasing humans, etc.
- Stunned zombies may still follow unstunned zombies, so long as they do not interrupt play.
- If hit again while stunned, the 10 minutes is reset. However, the zombie does not lose one of their daily stuns (see below)
- Headshots: Zombies, if hit in the head with a dart, sock or marshmallow, are stunned
- Zombies currently start with 10 stuns at the beginning of the first day, and lose 1 stun per day. This takes effect at midnight.
- Any object which a zombie is carrying on their person, such as clothes, umbrellas, backpacks, etc, counts as part of the zombie. If this item is hit by a dart, sock or marshmallow, the zombie is stunned.
- No jumping/diving tags.
OZ Rules
- You can volunteer to be an original zombie (OZ) by checking the box in your profile on the website.
- Original Zombie(s) are chosen by the Officers and Moderators. Chosen OZ's will be contacted the night before the start of the game.
- All Zombie rules apply to the OZ with the following exceptions:
- OZs are marked as humans and have unlimited stuns until they make 5 turns or until noon on the first day of the game (whichever comes first).
- OZs can be stunned while still marked as a human. Until the OZ is revealed, it is wise to stun any human you think might try to tag you.
Missions
- You will receive specific details before the mission.
- These details are sent via email.
- The information sent in this email override other information for the duration of the mission.
- There will be a mandatory mission briefing before each mission. If you want to play, you must be at this meeting.
- During a mission, safe zones cannot be utilized.
- If you enter a safe zone, or go out of bounds during a mission, you are out of the mission, and cannot participate for the duration of the mission.
- Amnesty (a time designating no Human vs. Zombie interaction) will be specified before each mission.
- Zombies have unlimited stuns during missions. Any stuns made during missions do not count toward the Zombie's daily stun count.
- If a Zombie is stunned out or starved out of the game, they may still play during the mission.
The Final Stand
- All rules applying to missions apply to the final stand.
- The final stand will occur on the last day of the game at a time posted by the Officers and Moderators.
Other Policies
- The Officers of BG UNDEAD and Moderators, chosen by the Officers to act as referees and impartial judges, have the final say in all disputes.
- Any rules are subject to change during play by the officer corp.
- Any rule changes will be posted on the BG UNDEAD website and emailed out to all the players.
DBAD (Don't Be A Dick)
If somebody would call you a Dick for doing it, it probably fits in here.- We all just want to have fun so obey the rules and use common sense. When registering on the website, you agree to a waiver. This means BG UNDEAD is not responsible for any lapse of common sense you may experience.
- Violators of the DBAD policy will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
- Each player can receive up to two DBAD strikes. The first strike is a warning. The second strike is removal from the game. Serious DBAD violators may end up dealing with University authorities.
- Examples of DBAD violations are as follows:
- Not taking stuns
- Not handing over your feed code in the case of an officer/moderator ruling in favor of a zombie tag.
- Running into out of bounds zones, with the intent of using them as a safe zone.
- Firing a blaster at a zombie from inside a safe zone.
- Repeatedly breaking the rules
- Not adhering to campus policies
- Faking injuries
- Intentionally interfering with gameplay while stunned.
- Intentionally Interrupting class sessions
- Intentionally injuring players
- Intentionally aiming for the head with darts, socks or marshmallows
- Other cases may also warrant a DBAD, as the officers and moderators deem appropriate.
DO NOT:
- Fake an injury
- Turn your bandana inside out or fold the bandana so the logo is not visible. The majority of the logo must be visible.
- Peek in windows while class is in session.
- Pick up darts that are not yours without the intent of immediately returning them
- Block doors
- Engage in any physical contact with other players beyond a zombie tagging someone
- Interfere with the game while stunned.
- Willfully injure another player
- Willfully or repeatedly break any rules
- Play if you are busy/playing interferes with your studies.
- Any action you or others feel is a dick move. (Hence the term 'DBAD.')
DO:
- Building hop
- Escape in vehicles
- Play as much as possible
- Use your cell phone to call for backup. (Unless you are stunned. Then it is DBAD.)

While the game is going on, you may direct questions or disputes about the rules to a Moderator or Officer, all of whom will be wearing red bandanas.- For immediate concerns, you may contact an Officer or Moderator by phone (see the contact page).
- You may also email the using the contact form or by emailing bgundead@gmail.com directly.
